Let's face it: our Eternal Boots aren’t the high-maintenance type.
We drew inspiration from a pair of sturdy boots worn by North American farmers a century ago, and we can assure you that they were toiling hard. So, they needed a pair of sturdy, reliable clogs that could withstand a lifetime of hard work in testing conditions. Yours are no different.
Now that we've said that, there's nothing to stop you pampering them from time to time.
Day-to-day business
Let’s start with a few easy tips for daily care:
- Avoid wearing them for days on end. The leather needs to breathe and relax every now and then. So it’s best to rotate them with a few other pairs of trusty shoes, it’ll keep them going longer.
- Invest in a nice pair of wooden shoe-trees. They’ll help your shoes keep their original shape and air things out, giving any moisture that’s found it’s way in a chance to escape. You’ll be able to find these at any car boot sale or online if you don’t fancy the legwork.
A quick brush (a day) keeps the shoe doctor away
OK, maybe just from time to time, more realistically. Let’s say once a month. Here’s how we recommend you keep your Eternal Boots looking the business:
- Dust them off with a proper cleaning brush (or any soft-bristled brush) before you can nourish them with a purpose-made leather cleansing cream.
- Use a clean cloth to apply the cream or oil. Just a drop should do the trick, spread it evenly making little circular motions so it soaks in nicely.
- You may even be tempted by some premium Mink oil wax.
- You can also give your boots a little all-weather boost with a water-proofing spray.
Last step, let in the pros
If you don’t have a go-to cobbler, you really should... Having your best shoes pampered is one of life’s great pleasures. Maybe give it a quick online search now you have some boots worth spoiling…
- A cobbler will expertly do all the above, with all the gear to hand, if time is of the essence.
- They’ll also be able to resole your boots, in a few years when you’ve managed to wear them down. The Goodyear welt used makes these a cobbler’s dream when it comes to replacing the outsole.
FYI, OUR ETERNAL BOOTS ARE SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Eternal Boots:
- They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
- No microplastics are released during their production. Unlike many garments and accessories, our Eternal Boots have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Eternal Boots.
Thanks!
So there you have it, you now know everything there is to know about looking after your Eternal Boots. We did do our level best to make them as hard-wearing as possible, but a little love won’t hurt them.
