Like all underwear, socks need to be washes after each wear. So chances are, they'll be on first name terms with your washing machine before long.
We've prepared this guide so you can prolong their life and make yours easier.
Cleaning them
No dark arts here, just put them in the wash with similar colours on a standard 30°C and limit the rinse spin speed to 600-800 rpm. This will reduce the stress on the yarns which will have an effect over time. We don’t recommend using a tumble dryer as besides consuming lots of energy it also roughs up your clothes.
Ending the quest for the missing sock
You've got lots of single socks, so do we, and none can say where the missing ones and gone off to. A genuine mystery.
The good news is that we've got a solution to put paid to that : the Guppyfriend washing bag. Bung them in and if there’re not both there when you fish it out something really weird is going on.
As our Socks contain 16% polyamide and 2% elastane, these bags are also an excellent way of limiting the release of microplastics.
A word about detergents
Here, the watchword is always the same: the more natural and organic, the better. Buying it from a trusted brand or even making it up yourself (not as crazy as it sounds) is always better than going for one of the supermarket big boys. They’re often full of dubious chemicals with are not good for your skin, the cloths or the spinning lump of rock we live on.
FYI, OUR NO-SHOW SOCKS ARE SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET
Since 1 January 2024, a New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase each time you buy from a brand. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our No-Show Socks.
- Sadly your No-Show Socks are not recyclable. If your symbiotic relationship was to come to an end you should know that your Socks are not recyclable. The material consists of 82% organic cotton, 16% polyamide and 2% elastane, which can’t currently be separated to recycle. We therefore recommend that you wear them until they’re completely knackered or to give them away for someone else to complete the job.
- As we’ve said, your No-Show Socks contain 18% synthetic fibres. Microplastics are tiny particles that have a harmful impact on the planet’s water and land ecosystems. At Asphalte, we only use synthetics when they dramatically increase the lifetime of a product, as is the case here. To prevent most microplastics from being released into the waterways, you recommend investing in the washing bag we mentioned and reading this article we wrote on the subject.
- They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
- They do not contain any recycled materials. We try and incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the No-Show Socks.
Thanks!
