Give the leather a breather
Don’t overstress this lovely leather. Your feet need a break, and so do your shoes:
- Avoid wearing your Brogues for days on end. Like all of us, they’ll be grateful for some time off, and it’ll give the leather time to relax.
- Invest in a pair of wooden shoe trees to keep them in shape and to help any moisture escape.
- Waterproof them before the first wear and once a year after that. The Goodyear Stormwelt construction may be watertight, but a few sprays with a good quality waterproofing product will protect your Brogues from the rain as well as from unexpected beer spillages.
Brush them regularly
The trademark of Brogues is the decorative perforations found on the leather. It's pretty, sure, but it also collects a lot of dust, grit, detritus. Once or twice a month, we recommend brushing them to remove the unwelcome dirt from these little holes. If you don't have a fancy shoe-specific tool, an old toothbrush will do the trick just fine.
Clean them right away
After brushing, you can give them a little shine. For that, use a slightly damp glove or a cloth. That will allow you to dust them off and remove the daily free-riding dirt.
Moisturise the leather from time to time
After cleaning, you can apply a dab of shoe grease to your Best Brogues, which, when rubbed in with a clean piece of cloth, will nourish the leather and restore its original shine. If you don't have this on hand, a dab of face/body moisturiser will work just as well (as long as it's not acidic).
