Jeans, in the purest sense
Like never before
Prepare to hear us wax lyrical for a mo. After a quest that’s lasted two years we can now proudly say that the new denim created for our Ultimate Jeans is utterly unique. We have the Italian denim wizards at Candiani, world leaders in eco-responsible denim production, to thank for that. As denim buffs know, this sort of rugged, characterful material was until now only associated with vaunted Japanese selvedge, so it’s a bit of a coup to have created this wonderfully textured fabric right here, in Europe.
A canvas masterpiece
Our commitment to cutting our carbon footprint by working with European partners meant that we couldn’t carry on sourcing the denim for our Ultimate Jeans from Japan, which in turn presented a major headache… The texture of Japanese denim is prized around the world and finding anything similar turned out to be mission impossible. So, we showed the chaps at Candiani what we liked about Japanese denim: the feel, texture and irregularity. Then we asked them if jeans that characterful could be made in Italy... It was the start of a two-year R&D rollercoaster and today, at last, we can show off the result: the perfect synthesis of vintage-inspired quality, character and contemporary innovation. You're looking at the most Japanese of European denims, woven, dyed and washed in the north of Italy. We’re proud to say this denim’s probably the greatest achievement in Asphalte's history.
Smart denim, limited impact
At Asphalte, we’re obsessed with offering the best quality-price-impact ratio on the market, and the word 'impact' isn't just in there for show. The new denim used for our Ultimate Jeans is made from 100% certified organic cotton. As usual, you can check out all the traceability info at the bottom of this page. Transparency’s key to changing the way clothes are made, for the better.
Sustainability for Life
Speaking of eco-consciousness, let’s do a little deep dive into our denim-invention partners at Candiani. Based in a nature reserve in Lombardy, northern Italy, the company keeps innovating year in, year out and helped us make the most eco-friendly jeans on the market. They recycle the water, energy and waste generated by the manufacture of their products and have a host of certifications and hold dozens of patents. In short, planet-friendly R&D’s in their DNA. We were able to benefit from some of their most cutting-edge innovations, such as Kitotex®, Indigo Juice® and Sound Dye in making this denim. If you want to know more about the hi-tech side of our denim journey, you can read all about it here.
Unbeatable tailored fit
The subtly tailored cut of our Ultimate jeans has already won some 65,000 of you over. Easy on the thighs, with a slight tapering from the knee down, they’re the perfect happy compromise between comfort and style. The result’s a fit that's spot on, an ultra-versatile pair of jeans that’ll sit right with a pair of loafers or sneakers, a tee or a button-down.
A magical patina
The Ultimate Jeans also come with patina guaranteed down the line… assuming you wear them, of course... From the choice of organic cotton fibres to the dyeing process, from the sizing to the tension of the individual threads, everything’s been studied, tried and tested to ensure your denim’ll age gracefully like a fine wine, at least according to denim sommelier Alberto Candiani:
“How you dye the colour is not just the way you want the colour to start with, but it’s the type of colour that has to age with the fabric and with the pair of jeans while it’s being worn and worn out so it ages and it really gives you that nice vintage natural look.”
1st class finishing
Asphalte's mission is to make sustainability accessible and the Ultimate Jeans are the perfect embodiment of what we do. For less than 100€, you can get your hands on a pair of jeans woven, dyed and made in Europe, with studied finishing touches and a hardy design that’ll guarantee years and years of wear. We went with overlocked inner seams, a chain stitch at the hem, pocket bags lined in organic cotton twill, belt loops reinforced with locking stitches, tone-on-tone bartacks on the back pockets, zamak buttons and brass rivets. See you — and your jeans — in ten years’ time.
Your legs won’t believe their luck
The Ultimate Jeans are a product of our fixation with high-quality heritage clothing and our dedication to making clothes responsibly. Woven in Italy, made in Portugal, in existence thanks to the latest innovations in eco-friendly textile engineering, these jeans are unique. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but we reckon you'll be as proud of them as we are.
