Care Guide for the Linen Suit Jacket

So, you’ve treated yourself to the Linen Jacket—good shout. Trust us, you won’t regret it.

Now, if you want to keep it looking as slick as the day it arrived, there are a few things you’ll need to do. Nothing too taxing—just some simple tips to help your new favourite jacket go the distance.

Alterations

There’s no two ways about it, we’re all built differently.

Height, weight, shoulders, posture—no two of us are exactly the same. And since we’re working with standard sizing, it’s impossible to get a made-to-measure fit straight out of the box.

We do our best to design our suits to suit as many people as possible, but if yours isn’t quite perfect, a quick trip to your alterations specialists will sort it.

For example: Sleeve length

  • Sleeves too long or too short? We’ve left the buttonholes closed so they can be adjusted. Shouldn’t cost you more than 35-40€.
  • Jacket sitting too low on your backside? Get it shortened—easy job, usually around 30€.
  • Want a more tailored fit? A quick nip and tuck at the sides will do the trick. Expect to pay about 20€. You don’t need a Savile Row tailor for this—just make sure whoever you go to knows what they’re doing. A botched alteration will cost you more in the long run.

Day-to-Day Care

If you want your Linen Jacket to stay looking fresh, treat it right. The golden rule? Always hang it up properly. Every single time. No chucking it over the back of a chair or leaving it in a heap.

As for creases, they’re part of the linen charm—but if they get a bit much, a quick steam or press will sort them out.

Spilled something? Don’t panic. Dab it with warm water and a bit of natural soap as soon as possible—works wonders on most stains.

Dry Cleaning: When & How

Whatever you do, don’t stick your suit in the washing machine. Dry cleaning is the way to go. It’ll set you back about 15€, but it’s the safest option.

Pro tip: Always take the whole suit (jacket and trousers) to be cleaned together—otherwise, you risk the colours fading at different rates.

And one last thing—check your suit before leaving the dry cleaners. If there’s any damage, they’re responsible for sorting it. Once you’ve left the shop, though, it’s on you.

YOUR LINEN SUIT JACKET AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Linen Suit Jackets:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Linen Suit Jackets have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Linen Suit Jacket.

Thanks!
