Care Guide for the Popover Shirt

Knowing how to care for your new sidekick is the key to longevity. Let's take a closer look.

Step 1: Washing

Turn your shirt inside out and pop it in the washing machine, in a washing net is even better, with similar colours. As for the programme, opt for a regular cycle at 30°C with a moderate spin (600 rpm) to avoid making your linen dizzy.

We highly recommend using an organic, liquid detergent. And if you have a homemade one, hats off to you!

Step 2: Drying

Particularly absorbent, linen fibre dries in no time! So you can spare it a spin in the tumble dryer: instead, let it air dry, away from direct sunlight and on a wooden hanger. It will smooth out as it dries, making step 3 much easier.

Step 3: Ironing

By drying on a hanger, your shirt will be crease-free but not necessarily as smooth as you’d like it. To do that, grab your iron, and

  • Always place a layer of fabric between the iron plate and the fabric to avoid scorching it or leaving marks.
  • Put demineralised water in your iron, not tap water which might be too hard. This will also prevent marks.
  • As far as temperature is concerned, we advise you not to exceed 150°C.

If you don't have an iron on hand, you can leave it hanging in the bathroom after taking a hot shower: the steam should help to remove any unsightly creases. Good tip?

Bonus: no need to overdo it!

Linen stains should be treated differently depending on their source.

  • For the after-effects of a wine-aperitif, we recommend using salt. It works, we promise, better than the iPhone-in-a-package-of-rice technique.
  • On a bloodstain, lots of cold water and a little patience will do the trick.
  • We've all had a case of the Monday morning coffee spurts: white vinegar will save the day.
  • In the event of an impromptu rugby match, lose the shirt. Failing that you can remove any dirt with a bit of natural soap and remove grass stains with a little lemon juice. We'll leave you to deal with the black eye.
  • An ink stain? You can finish your classic novel without worry. A few drops of methylated spirits will do the trick.
  • On greasy stains ( that hangover triple cheese fix), washing-up liquid and/or black soap will be your best allies.

FYI, OUR POPOVER SHIRTS ARE SOFT ON YOU AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Popover Shirts:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Popover Shirts have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems**.**
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Popover Shirt.

Thanks!
