The Slack Jacket Care guide

You’ve just enlisted the services of the most casual of jackets! Great choice. Now, welcome to your care guide.

Here are a few tips on how to keep it looking at its best for years to come.

Alterations

Length, weight, build, sleeve length, shoulder width: these all vary wildly from one earth dweller to another. And because we make ready-to-wear clothes, we work to standards that suit as many people as possible.

So, if your jacket doesn't fit exactly to your liking when you try it on at first, then you’ll need to have it altered. Most alteration experts will be able to make these final adjustments easy peasy. For example:

  • Sleeve length: You can have the cuffs lengthened or shortened as needed, which is why we've left the buttonholes closed. The price? Around 40€.
  • Tailoring the jacket: If you need to take in or let out the waist, it should set you back about 20€. You don't have to go to the best tailor in town, but try and pick a good one - a clean finish requires a little expertise.

Daily care

The durability of your Slack Jacket depends on how much you use it and how well you look after it. The golden rule here is to put it on a hanger every time it comes off your shoulders to limit creases and preserve its shape.

If you get a stain, the best thing to do is to act quickly: a little warm water with natural soap should get rid of most of them if you're reactive enough.

The dry cleaners

As you've probably heard by now, jackets are too delicate to be washed in the washing machine, so when you need to give your Slack Jacket a refresh, take it to the dry cleaners. It'll set you back around 15€, but it's the safest thing to do.

PS: If you've preordered the matching Slack Trousers, we strongly advise that you dry clean your entire suit each time to avoid the jacket and trousers developing different shades over time.

FYI, OUR SLACK JACKET AND THE PLANET

Since 1 January 2024, the New French environmental legislation known as The AGEC Law stipulates transparency from our lot in the fashion industry so that you can make an informed purchase. As you can imagine, this is something that we fully support at Asphalte. So here's some additional information about our Slack Jackets:

  • They’re 100% recyclable after being dismantled, which means that the day their services are no longer required every component can be fully recycled. If you stop wearing them for whatever reason, you might want to consider making someone else happy by passing them on to a friend, family member or donating them to a charity. The best way of reducing an item of clothing’s impact is by keeping it in circulation, and only recycling it when there really is no life or use left in it.
  • No microplastics are released during washing. Unlike many garments, our Slack Jackets have been designed to not release any microplastics. Plastic microfibres are tiny particles of plastic that are released when worn or washed and have a negative impact on aquatic and land ecosystems.
  • They do not contain any hazardous materials. They’re manufactured in compliance with strict standards aimed at eliminating the use of harmful substances and other chemical nasties.
  • They do not contain any recycled materials. We try to incorporate recycled materials whenever we can, unfortunately, it hasn’t been possible to do so with the Slack Jacket.
